What this service does

Official platform operated by the Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs. Citizens can apply for a fresh Ordinary Passport, renewal/re-issue of expired passports, Tatkaal expedited processing, Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), and schedule appointments at Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) and Post Office PSKs (POPSK).

Who can use it / Eligibility

All Indian citizens by birth, descent, registration, or naturalization. Minors require parent consent. Applicants must not have prohibited criminal proceedings.

  • 1Proof of Date of Birth: Aadhaar Card, Birth Certificate, Matriculation Pass Certificate, or PAN Card.
  • 2Proof of Present Address: Aadhaar Card, Water/Electricity/Telephone Bill, Bank Passbook, or Rent Agreement.
  • 3Non-ECR Proof (for ECNR status): 10th standard pass certificate or higher educational degree.
  • 4For Re-issue: Original old passport with self-attested copies of first two and last two pages.

How it works (Step-by-Step)

    Register on the Passport Seva Online Portal (passportindia.gov.in).

    Login and click 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport'.

    Fill in personal, family, and address details accurately matching your educational and Aadhaar records.

    Click 'Pay and Schedule Appointment' to select your nearest PSK/POPSK and pay the statutory fee online.
  5. 5
    Print application receipt with Appointment ARN.

    Visit the PSK/POPSK on the scheduled date with original documents and self-attested photocopies.

    Complete biometric capture and document verification, then complete local police verification.
Offline Application Process

Manual paper applications are only accepted for specific categories (medical emergencies, official/diplomatic passports). All regular applications require online submission and appointment booking.

Fresh/Re-issue Normal Passport (36 pages, 10-year validity): ₹1,500. Fresh/Re-issue Normal Passport (60 pages, 10-year validity): ₹2,000. Tatkaal Scheme Additional Fee: ₹2,000 (total ₹3,500 for 36 pages). Minor Passport (under 18 years, 5-year validity): ₹1,000. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): ₹500.

Processing Time

Normal Application: 15 to 30 working days (post police verification). Tatkaal Scheme: 1 to 3 working days. PCC: 7 to 15 working days.
