What this service does

Flagship initiative under Digital India by MeitY. DigiLocker provides citizens with a secure cloud-based document repository. Issued documents pulled into DigiLocker (Aadhaar, Driving Licence, Vehicle RC, Class 10/12 Marksheets, PAN, Academic Degrees, Insurance Policies) are legally recognized on par with original physical documents under Rule 9A of the IT Rules 2016.

Any Indian resident possessing an Aadhaar number linked to an active mobile number.

How it works (Step-by-Step)

    Visit the official DigiLocker portal at https://www.digilocker.gov.in/ or install the mobile app.

    Click 'Sign Up', enter your full name as per Aadhaar, date of birth, mobile number, and set a 6-digit security PIN.

    Verify using the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  4. 4
    Once logged in, go to 'Search Documents' and search for your required issuer (e.g. Ministry of Road Transport, CBSE, Income Tax).

    Enter identifying parameters (e.g. Registration number, PAN number, Exam Roll number).

    Click 'Get Document'. The verified document is cryptographically fetched into your 'Issued Documents' tab.
Offline Application Process

DigiLocker is entirely digital. Citizens without smartphones or internet access can access DigiLocker services through Common Service Centres (CSCs).
